Dewatering Units

Overview

The dewatering units are an essential part of wastewater treatment plant. The unit efficiently separated the activated sludge into liquid and solid components and reduced waste generation. This significantly helps in reducing the sludge volume.

INVENT UAE specializes in the supply of dewatering units that consist of filtering drum with both the thickening and dewatering zone. It can handle low concentrated sludge at 0.2% directly while skipping the pre-thickening stage. The equipment helps with dewatering the sludge and automatic self- cleaning of the filter mesh. It has a filter element which consists of two rings- fixed ring and moving ring and a screw thrusts the filter element and hence it pressurizes the sludge. The sludge is thickened and dewatered due to narrowing of rings and screw towards direction of sludge cake outlet as well as due to increase in inner pressure of filter elements due to the volume compression.

There are two main body configurations based on with or without sludge conditioning tank:

1. Model Without Sludge Conditioning Tank

  • The incoming volume of sludge is adjusted by the flow control tank. The overflow pipe helps in regulating the sludge feed and the excess sludge is returned to the storage tank.
  • The polymer coagulant is added to the flocculation tank and stirred together with the sludge. This promotes flocculation of the sludge. The flocculated sludge flows from the flocculation tank into the drum.
  • The flocculated sludge moves to the dewatering drum via the connecting hose. The initial section is the thickening zone which thickens the sludge. The thickening helps in separating the solids from liquid. This is followed by the dewatering process. The drum carries out the process of thickening and dewatering in a single operation.
  • The filtrate water returns to the primary process. The gaps towards the end plate decrease and with the pressure application, it discharges dewatered cakes.

2. Model with Sludge Conditioning Tank

In this process all the steps are the same as the model without sludge conditioning tank except for the first step. In this model, a sludge conditioning tank is used for conditioning the sludge. The sludge conditioning helps in temporary storage of the sludge before dewatering. This enables a solid capture rate as high as 95%.
